COACHING STAFF

Head Coach- Raymond Adams-
Ray Adams is in his twenty-third year with the program and twenty-second year as the Head Wrestling Coach of the Long Beach Marines.  In both 2016 and 2017 , the team captured the New York State Dual Meet title with an exciting wins over Hilton and Rocky Point respectively in the finals of the U.E. Duals. The team finished a perfect 17-0 in 2016 and 16-0 in 2017. The Marines were honored as the #1 ranked team in N.Y.S. before the state finals in Albany in back to back years.  The team was also presented with the Pacal Perri Cup which is symbolic of the #1 overall ranked team in N.Y.S. regardless of division in both 2016 and 2017. The team won the 2016 County Tournament by being the first team in Nassau County history to score over 300 points as 14 wrestlers earned All-County honors. This was also a Nassau County record. In 2017, LB captured their third straight Nassau County Dual Meet title with an exciting 32-30 win over Wantagh.  Coming into the 2018 season the Marines had won 49 matches in a row. The program has now won 22 Nassau County titles in its history. The team has also won the League Championship nine times in the last ten years. In 2012, Long Beach became the first New York State High School to have three All-Americans at the NHSCA Senior National Tournament. DYLAN PALACIO became LB's second high school National Champion. Jon Masa won the title in 2000. In 2018, JACORI TEEMER became the first wrestler in Long Island history and only the second in New York State history to win five state titles. He followed that up with winning his second N.H.S.C.A. National Championship in a row in Virginia Beach. Additionally, TEEMER won the U.S. Cadet World Team Trials and represented the United States at the 2017 World Championships in Athens, Greece placing third. Adams has been voted League Coach of the Year 8X.  In 2016, 2009 and 2004 he was voted the Nassau County Wrestling Coach of the Year. In 2016 he was voted the Newsday Long Island Coach of the Year.  in 2017, he was voted the the New York State Wrestling Coach of the Year and North East Regional Coach of the Year by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.  In 1998, he was voted the Nassau County Rookie Coach of the Year. During his tenure, the Long Beach Program has crowned  9 National Champions, 34 High School All-Americans, 20 College All-Americans, 10 High School State Champions, 32 State Place-winners, 52 State Qualifiers, 37 Nassau County Champions, 132 All-County Wrestlers, and 126 League Champions. In 1997, he served as an Assistant Coach in Long Beach to Damian Garcia for one year. During that season Long Beach crowned its 7th New York State Champion in Kevin Haggerty.  He has also been the Head Coach of the Long Beach-USA Wrestling Club since its inception in 1998. In that span, 182 LONG BEACH wrestlers have earned All-State honors in freestyle and Greco-Roman and 42 of these young men and a woman, have won STATE TITLES.  65 wrestlers have represented TEAM NY at the National Championships in Fargo, North Dakota during that span with ten young men earning ALL-AMERICAN honors. Prior to coming to Long Beach, he served as the Assistant Varsity Coach at his alma mater Baldwin High School under Hall of Fame coach Steve Shippos. In his three years with the Bruins he helped coach 4 Nassau County Champions, 2 State Place-winners, and a High School National Champion.  He served as an Assistant Coach on the New York State National Team in Fargo, ND for 8 years and helped lead Team NY to a National Championship in 2003.  He is the former Junior Director for Nassau County USA Wrestling and was three-term president of the Nassau County Wrestling Coaches Association.  He wrestled in college for U.S. World Team and Olympic Assistant Coach Joe DeMeo and Head Olympic Coach Andy Seras at the University at Albany. He was a 2x  N.C.A.A. Academic All-American, All-State, and 2x All-Conference selection. In high school he wrestled for four years at Baldwin High School earning 4x All-League honors, was a 2x League Champion, and earned All-County honors 2x. In 1986, the Bruins became the first team in Nassau County history to win both the Dual Meet and Tournament County titles.  He is married to his wife Rina and has two children: Raymond (14) and Reese (11). Adams is a Social Studies teacher at LBHS.

 Assistant Coach- Leo Palacio-
Leo Palacio has been involved with the Long Beach Wrestling program for the last 40 years as a wrestler and coach.  In his capacity as a coach, he has served the program for 35 years at the kid, middle school, and high school level. He was voted the 2016 Nassau County Assistant Coach of the Year. At the conclusion of the 2014 season, Leo Palacio was voted the New York State National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Assistant Coach of the Year. He was voted the 2010 Nassau County Assistant Coach of the Year by the coaches association.  As a wrestler, he was a Nassau County Champion for LB and a 3x All-County selection. He and his brothers, Al and Luis, helped lead LB to a number of county championships and the 1982 New York State Championship. Leo was also an All-American soccer player at LBHS. After high school, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he wrestled and played soccer. Palacio currently coaches the Varsity Boys Soccer team, varsity wrestling team, and the middle school girls softball team.  His son Dylan won the 2012 New York State Championship at 160 lbs. and the 2012 National Championship. He finishes with 215 career wins. He was voted the Nassau County Wrestler of the Year and New York State Wrestler of the Year by WIN MAGAZINE in 2012.  In addition, he was named to the INTERMAT and WRESTLING USA ALL-AMERICAN teams. Dylan was County Champion in 2009,  placed 4th in NYS in 2010 as a wildcard selection, won his second county title in 2011 and finished 3rd in N.Y.S.  He also has earned All-American honors all four years of high school.   He placed 3rd in the 2011 NHSCA National Championships in Virginia Beach. Dylan was voted the 2012 Soccer League Player of the Year.  In his first year of college competition, Dylan made a huge splash as he captured the FILA Junior National Freestyle Championship in Las Vegas at 163 lbs. for the Finger Lakes Wrestilng Club of Cornell University. For the last three years, Dylan has been the starting 157/165 lber. for Cornell.  In 2016, Dylan won the E.I.W.A. Wrestling Championship for Cornell University and earned All-American honors as he placed 4th in the country for the Big Red of Cornell. In 2017, Dylan placed 6th in the N.C.A.A. Division One championships in St. Louis. Palacio has a daughter Ashley and another son Michael. Michael was a professional soccer player and previously played professionally in Europe and played for the NY Redbulls. He is married to Alex and works at LBHS.

 Head Junior Varsity Coach Bernard Valentin-
Bernard Valentin is in his 13th year as the JV Wrestling Coach at LBHS. In 2017 he was award the J.V. Wrestling Coach Sportsmanship Award given out by the Nassau County Referee's. He was also won the 2017 Long Beach Latino Association Youth Leadership Award. Prior to coming home to coach at LB, he was the Head Assistant Wrestling Coach at Southern Connecticut State University from 1997-1998.  He was also served as the Assistant Coach at SCSU from 1995-1997.  During his high school days, he wrestled for Paul Gillespie and Reggie Jones at LBHS from 1987-1990. He was a 2x Nassau County Champion and finished 3rd in NYS. He served as team captain and won over 100 matches. In his four years wrestling for Long Beach, the program won 7 out of a possible 8 County Team Titles (4 Tournament and 3 Dual Meet Titles) –It was the best four year stretch in LB Wrestling history. He was also a member of the 1987 NYS Championship team. In college, he attended SCSU and was a 2x N.C.A.A. All-American. He was a 3x National Qualifier, captain of the team, and recorded over 100 career victories.  In 2002, he was inducted into the LBHS Wall of Fame. He is married to Sheri and they have two children, daughter Sophia is 19 years old and son Jack is 14 years old. Jack was the Nassau County Youth Wrestling Champion at 70 lbs. in 2016 and was the starting 99 lber. for Long Beach this year earning All-League honors as a freshman.  Bernard is a School Psychologist at Long Beach High School. He has also run 2 marathons (LA and LI) and 2 sprint triathlons (one individual and one team-run).

John Anfossi-Middle School Coach
Coach John Anfossi has been part of the Long Beach Wrestling Program since the mid 1980's. He was an All-County wrestler for Coaches Paul Gillespie and Reggie Jones. After high school, Anfossi wrestled for Hunter College in New York City. Now a Physical Education teacher in the Middle School, he has served the program in number of capacities. He has coached the Recreation Youth Program for many years, the Middle School program and the high school teams. He also started the Long Beach Gladiators Youth Travel team with Coach Rodriguez a number of years ago. Anfossi has organized and run the Long Beach Alumni Nassau County Youth Championships the last four years. He was the Head Coach of Valley Stream Central High School for one year in the late 1990's. He is married to Maggie and has two sons John, who graduated from  Penn State and Luke who is 14. Luke was the Nassau County Wrestling Champion in his weight class in 2016 and is currently a member of the Long Beach High School team.
